COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-Press) is designed to allow learners the opportunity to work in the graphic pre-press sector, to acquire and apply competencies required for safe, effective work practices. The course has been designed to provide a balanced program of training in practical technical and theoretical desktop publishing skills used by the Graphic Arts and allied industries.

This course is for anyone who wants to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform the duties of a pre-press tradesperson. You will learn about the major sectors of the industry and new developments and techniques. You will also learn how to collect, analyse and organise information, communicate ideas and information, and plan and organise activities. You will develop the skills needed to work in a team, use mathematical ideas and techniques, problem solve and use technology.

CAREER OUTCOMES

The Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-press) equips learners with the portable skills necessary to achieve employment in a broad range of professional graphic design and all kinds of print media products as well as having a regard for quality control and other important professional production principles.

The Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-Press) will enable you to work as a graphic pre-press operator in the printing industry. You will learn a range of pre-press operations which centre around the production of documents with images and graphics using desktop publishing programs and industry standard software and equipment

COURSE REQUIREMENT

A LAPTOP COMPUTER capable of processing all the software required for the course, particularly with wireless networking. Software required for the course can be purchased at s tudent discounts through the College after payment of College fees.

If learners exit before attaining the qualification, they will receive a Statement of Attainment for modules/competencies successfully completed.

APPLICATION / ENROLMENT:

Application forms for full time study are available from the Australian International College of Art Head Office and the Australian International College of Art website and should be submitted to Head Office. (Intake occurs twice yearly February and July).

PATHWAYS
The Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-Press) provides a program of study focused on industry centered outcomes which caters for employment or study in a specialised industry sector. The Certificate is a 1 year full time course.

On successful completion of this qualification, pathways exist to higher level study in the Graphic Arts industry and entry into the Diploma of Graphic Design. The Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-Press) is also designed as a pathway which can lead to an apprenticeship or status/recognition as a tradesperson



WHAT IS EXPECTED OF STUDENTS

As this is a full time program it would be of advantage for students to have competent skills in the areas of research, note-taking and report preparation. It is expected that students would put in 1 – 3 hours outside study time per class per week.

COURSE OUTCOMES
Graduates of the Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-Press) will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve entry-level employment in the pre-press industry or corporate business as well as work freelance. Career opportunities have increased due to technological changes in the printing and graphic arts industry. Employment opportunities exist for electronic publishing operators, desktop publishers and multimedia electronic designers for the design and production of complex publications for output to press and multimedia.
