Completion of:

  • 4 Core Units
  • Completion of 12 units from the elective area
  • Completion of 2 units from the Visual Arts Craft and Design Training Package

Nominal Hours: 930 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Certificate IV in Visual Arts is a pre-requisite for students wishing to enroll in the Diploma of Visual Arts.  The business and professional practice components of this course provide students with the knowledge and resources to market and promote themselves, and lead successful careers as professional artists.

This course offers a broad range of artistic skills and experiences in many different disciplines e.g. drawing, painting, sculpture, design, video art and public art. It is designed to allow students to develop a portfolio of artwork suitable for applying for jobs or alternative courses, and also provides a pathway to higher qualifications such as a diploma or degree.

COURSE DURATION

1 year full time.  Intake February and July.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Completion of Year 10
plus submission of a satisfactory portfolio.

OR

Enrolment where experience or qualifications are indicative of success in the course plus submission of a satisfactory portfolio.

AND

A LAPTOP COMPUTER capable of processing all the software required for the course, particularly with wireless networking.  Software required for the course can be purchased at student discounts through the College after payment of College fees.

Overseas students require one of the following scores in a language proficiency test:

IELTS 5.0
TOEFL (Computer Based) 173
TOEFL (paper based) 500
TOEIC 625

On successful completion of this qualification, pathways exist to higher level study in the Creative Arts.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognises knowledge / skills already gained from
life / work experience or formal training conducted by industry or other educational institutes in Australia or overseas.  Students need to apply for RPL and present evidence of their  knowledge / skills in all elements of the competency.

EXIT POINTS:

Learners who exit the Certificate IV in Visual Arts prior to completion may request a Statement of Attainment for units satisfactorily completed.

APPLICATION / ENROLMENT:

Application forms for full time study are available from the Australian International College of Art Head Office and the Australian International College of Art website and should be sumitted to the Head Office.  (Intakes occur twice yearly (February and July)

ASSESSMENT / AWARD:

Assessments may be conducted through oral, written and practical methods.

On successful completion of this qualification, students will be eligible for a CUV40103 – Certificate IV in Visual Arts.
